PANEER BUTTER MASALA WITHOUT CREAM

Paneer is fresh, soft but firm cottage cheese popular in Indian cuisine. Paneer is a very versatile dairy product and used in an assortment of Indian curries, snacks and sweets. You can find paneer at any local Indian grocery stores. Some Costco stores also carry paneer. If you are a bachelor, this recipe is must to try, I am sure everyone will lick their fingers after eating this yummy curry.
This paneer butter masala gravy goes well with chapathi, naan, roti, jeera rice or pulao. Though, shahi paneer, kadai paneer, matar paneer, paneer tikka masala are most common curry we often make, this easy paneer butter masala is also an ultimate treat to our taste buds!

RECIPE FOR PANEER BUTTER MASALA

- green moong dal curry
- bhindi do pyaza
- green peas masala
- methi matar malai
- soya chunks curry
- cauliflower kurma
- capsicum gravy
- dhaba style matar paneer
- punjabi lobia masala
INGREDIENTS
- 1 onion - roughly chopped
- 2 tomato - roughly chopped
- 10 cashews
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1.5 tsp coriander powder
- 3/4 tsp garam masala powder
- salt - to taste
- 3/4 cup water
- 250 gm paneer - cubed
- 1 tsp kasoori methi
PROCEDURE
- add roughly chopped onion, tomato and cashews into the mixer jar and grind to a smooth paste and set aside
- heat unsalted butter in a nonstick pan, as soon as it starts to melt, add ginger garlic paste and saute well for 1 minute or until the raw smell goes
- then add onion tomato paste and along with turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder and salt
- mix well and cover with lid and cook the masala for 3-4 minutes or until the raw smell leaves and the masala cooked
- the masala will thicken immediately and it form likes a thick mass, then immediately add 3/4 cup water and stir well to combine
- bring this mixture to boil for 1-2 minute, then add cubed paneers and kasoori methi together
- cover with lid and cook the paneer cubes for 5 minutes in low flame. once paneer cooked well remove the curry from the flame and serve with chapathi, roti or naan
- Enjoy!
- do not cook paneer too much as it will turn rubbery and always serve paneer dishes quickly after you cook
- adjust spice level according to your taste
- if your onion tomato paste do not get cooked well your curry will be ruined. always make sure to cook it until there is not raw smell and then add your paneer cubes.
