VAZHAKKAI PUTTU RECIPE |
STARTUP COOKING
Vazhakkai Puttu is also known as Raw Banana Podimas is one of the traditional dish made with raw banana and its very popular in Tamil Nadu.
Raw Banana is also known as green plantains in English, Vazhakkai in Tamil, Balekai in Kannada and Aratikaya in Telugu.
It's a simple stir fry of raw banana with chopped onions, curry leaves, green chillies and grated coconut. This is one of my favorite side dish for my regular south Indian lunch. Actually this is a savory side dish that goes well with sambar rice, rasam rice or even curd rice.
Podimas is a tamil word for mash/crush/crumble. Also, this podimas recipe can be made from boiled potatoes as well.
Here i boiled the raw banana in an open sauce pot for 10 minutes. Alternatively, you can cook the banana in a pressure cooker for 1-2 whistle, and do not over cook. The boiled banana should be soft, cooked, yet firm and enough to grate or crumble. Follow my step by step photo recipe to prepare Vazhakkai Puttu.
