Mango Shrikhand, is popularly known as Amrakhand. It is a delicious fruity flavor to the traditional plain Shrikhand recipe. It is made using 5 important ingredients like plain yogurt, mango puree, powdered sugar, cardamom and saffron strands. This shrikhand is silky smooth and creamy in texture and it tastes sweet and slightly tangy. It is usually garnish with some nuts and dried rose petals.
Mostly shrikhand is eaten with poori (Indian fried bread) and also it can be eaten as a dessert or as a part of Indian thali.
What is Shrikhand ?
Shrikhand is a thick creamy and delicious Indian dessert made with strained yogurt, powdered sugar, cardamom powder, saffron strands and nuts. Some people will call this as sweetened yogurt, but this is much more flavor than that.
Shrikhand is very good for health. Shrikhand is a rich source of calcium, phosphorus, vitamins B1, B2 and B12. It is an easy and quick sweet recipe that is suitable to have on a fasting day.
Mango Shrikhand is one of my favorite summer desserts to make when mangoes are in season. This is an irresistible desert! and my son loves a lot during his summer vacation.
You can store shrikhand in a tight covered box for a week in the refrigerator. RECIPE FOR MANGO SHRIKHAND

INGREDIENTS
- 2 cup plain yogurt
- 2 large mangoes or 3 medium sized mangoes - pureed
- 1 large mango - finely chopped
- 4 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
- 1/8 tsp saffron strands
- 1/4 tsp rose petals
PROCEDURE
- line a cheesecloth over the strainer, pour the plain yogurt onto the cheese cloth and gather the corners of the cloth and tie it into a bundle
- now you can either hang this cheesecloth or place a heavy weight on top of it
- leave this cheesecloth for 4-5 hours or leave it overnight in the refrigerator, so the water can completely drain out
- after 5 hours, the yogurt will be super thick and completely strained
- remove the hung yogurt or curd from the cheesecloth and transfer into the bowl
- whisk the hung yogurt with hand blender or stand mixer until you get a smooth creamy consistency
- to that, add mango puree (this puree from 2 large sweet mangoes by just blending their pulp in a blender), powdered sugar and cardamom powder
- mix well for another 5 minutes until everything is well combined, you will get more smooth, shiny and creamy consistency, mango shrikhand is ready
- transfer 2-3 tbsp of mango shrikhand into the serving glass, next top with some chopped mangoes and again top up with more shrikhand
- chill the mango shrikhand in to the refrigerator for 3-4 hours before serving
- just before serving, garnish shrikhand with saffron strands, dried rose petals or with some nuts
- Enjoy!
- use fresh sweet mango pulp for the better taste
- you can also use whole greek yogurt
- adjust sugar level according to the taste
- shrikhand tastes best when serve chilled
