Andhra Chilli Chicken Curry is a spicy chicken recipe made with lots of green chillies, curry leaves, mint leaves, coriander leaves, shallots and coconut milk. 

Andhra Cuisine is famous for its fiery hot and spicy food and this chicken recipe here is no exception. An Authentic Andhra recipe full of flavorful spice and rich curry. Andhra chicken curry though has many versions, like in coastal regions this curry is cooked with coconut milk.

It is full of herbs, spices and coconut milk. This recipe is easy to prepare at home and goes very well with any accompaniment like chapathi, roti, parotta, rice or dosa. Adjust your spice level according to your taste.

Non-Veg Starters

INGREDIENTS

To Grind

  • 10 green chilli
  • 1/2 cup mint leaves
  • 1/2 cup coriander leaves
  • 1 spring curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 3 shallots
For Chicken Curry
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 large onion - finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/2 tomato - chopped
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1.5 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1 pound boneless chicken
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves - chopped - for garnish

PROCEDURE

  • clean chicken with turmeric powder twice or thrice and then clean with fresh water
  • in the mixer jar, add green chillies, mint leaves, coriander leaves, curry leaves and shallots
  • grind to a smooth paste with a tbsp of water and keep aside
  • heat 2 tbsp oil in the pressure cooker and temper with cumin seeds
  • add finely chopped onion and saute well until transparent
  • add ginger garlic paste and saute well until the raw smell goes
  • add chopped tomato, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and garam masala powder
  • saute well for 2-3 minutes, until it turns little mushy
  • add ground chilli masala paste, mix well and cook for 1 minute on high flame
  • now add cleaned boneless chicken pieces and mix well with the spices and cook for 5 minutes in medium flame
  • once the masalas coat well with the chicken
  • add water, salt and mix well
  • close with lid and pressure cook for 3-5 whistle
  • once the pressure subsides down naturally, open the cooker and add 1/2 cup thick coconut milk and mix well
  • bring the curry to boil for 1-2 minutes and then switch off the flame and garnish with chopped coriander leaves
  • serve hot with chapathi, dosa, rice, biryani, etc.,
  • Delicious 😋 
NOTES
  • adjust spice level according to your taste
  • you can cook the chicken in open pot and cook in low medium flame for 30 minutes
  • for this recipe, you can also use bone-in chicken, really tastes good

Andhra Chilli Chicken Curry With Step By Step Photo Recipe

grind to a smooth pate with a tbsp of water


heat oil in the pressure cooker and temper with cumin seeds


add finely chopped onion


saute well until transparent


add ginger garlic paste


saute well until the raw smell goes


add chopped tomato, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder and garam masala powder


cook for 2 minutes until the tomatoes turn mushy


add ground chilli masala paste


mix well and cook on high flame for 1 minute


add cleaned boneless chicken pieces


mix well and cook on medium flame for 5 minutes


add water and salt


mix well and pressure cook for 3-5 whistle

add thick coconut milk


mix well and cook for 1-2 minute and then switch off the flame

garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with chapathi, 
roti, rice or naan
