PICO DE GALLO RECIPE |
STARTUP COOKING
Pico de Gallo is a classic Mexican tomato dip that adds a fresh, healthy, low calorie boost of flavor to just about any Mexican meal. You will need only seven ingredients to make this recipe, tomatoes, onion, jalapeno, coriander leaves, lemon and salt. That's it!
Pico de Gallo means "beak of rooster". Some believe this is because it was originally eaten by pinching between the thumb and finger, making the shape of a rooster's beak. Pico de gallo is a salsa popular with Mexican food, like tacos, nachos or quesadillas. source - twistedtaco.
The difference between salsa and pico de gallo is mostly found in the texture. Pico de gallo is made with fresh ingredients that are chopped and mixed together. It's less wet and it adds a wonderful chunky texture. Where the salsas use the same ingredients they have more liquid and there consistency is little closer to a pureed in texture. Both are delicious.
