POTTUKADALAI POONDU PODI RECIPE | STARTUP COOKING
Pottukadalai Podi Recipe - a flavorful spice powder made of fried gram dal, garlic and red chillies. This is one of the comfort side dish recipe for morning breakfast in Tamil Nadu. During school days, 50% of all the school lunch boxes were packed with sesame oil coated podi Idly. In our house, we all need this podi even if there is chutney for Idly.
Pottukadalai poondu podi recipe is easy to prepare and goes very well with Idli, dosa, uthappam and rice. This podi tastes little spicy and very flavorful to the mouth. For making podi idli, mix the idli podi with sesame oil and apply all over the idli and sprinkle the idli podi on top of the uthappam or dosa to make the recipe more delicious. RECIPE FOR POTTUKDALAI POONDU PODI

INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup pottukadalai (fried gram dal)
- 7 red chillies
- 8 garlic
- salt to taste
- 1 tsp oil
PROCEDURE
- dry roast pottukadalai (fried gram dal) for a minute in the pan and then set aside
- in the same pan, add a tsp of oil, roast red chillies and set aside
- again in the same pan, add chopped garlic and roast until slight golden brown and then switch off the flame
- cool down all the ingredients completely
- transfer into mixer grinder and grind to a fine powder
- store in an air tight container
- pottukadalai podi ready to serve with idli, dosa and rice
- taste delicious
NOTES
- adjust spice level according to your taste
- store at room temperate and stays good for 2 months
- serve with hot rice drizzled with a tsp of ghee
- serve with idli and dosa with a tsp of sesame oil
