POTTUKADALAI CHUNTEY RECIPE WITHOUT COCONUT | STARTUP COOKING
Pottukadalai chutney is one of the delightful South Indian condiment that pairs beautifully with all breakfast recipes like idli, dosa and upma. This roasted gram dal chutney is tasty and healthy alternative for people who is looking for chutney without coconut. The roasted gram dal is also called as split gram, putanae in telugu and pottukadalai in tamil.
This chutney can be made under 5 minutes and hence it can be made any time. Grind the fried gram dal, red chillies, garlic and tamarind in to a fine powder and store it. RECIPE FOR POTTUKADALAI CHUTNEY

INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup pottukadalai (fried gram dal)
- 5 red chilli
- 2 garlic
- 1 small sized tamarind
- salt to taste
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 tsp oil
- 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp urad dal
- 1/8 tsp hing
- 1 spring curry leaves
PROCEDURE
- take roasted gram dal, red chillies, garlic and tamarind in the mixer grinder
- grind to a fine powder
- add salt and required amount of water and then grind to a smooth paste
- transfer the chutney into a bowl
- add more water and adjust the consistency of the chutney if you want to make it thin
- for seasoning, add a tsp of oil in the pan
- temper with mustard seeds, urad dal, hing and curry leaves
- add into the chutney and mix well
- serve with idli, dosa and upma
- adjust red chillies as per your taste
- make sure this chutney should be thin and pourable
