Aloo chaat is one of the most popular Indian street food, which is famous for its lip-smacking taste. This quick snack recipe is very simple but mixed with variety of flavors in every bite. Aloo chaat is mainly a street food. It can be served as a snack or a side dish for a light meal. The word aloo means potatoes in Hindi and the word chaat is derived from Hindi word chatna which means tasting. Aloo chaat means savory potato snack.
Aloo chaat is little spicy and tangy in taste, it is easy to prepare and made under 20 minutes. This chaat is prepared from boiled and fried cubed potatoes, red chilli powder, chaat powder, green chutney, tamarind chutney, Plain Sev, curd and pomegranate seeds.

RECIPE FOR ALOO CHAAT

INGREDIENTS
- 3 boiled potatoes
- 2 tbsp oil - for shallow fry
- 1/2 cup onion - chopped
- 1/2 tsp kashmiri red chilli powder
- 1/4 tsp roasted cumin powder
- 1/4 tsp chaat masala powder
- salt to taste
- 1.5 tbsp green chutney
- 1.5 tbsp sweet tamarind chutney
- 1/4 -1/2 cup plain sev
- 2 tbsp curd/yogurt
- 1 tbsp coriander leaves - chopped
- 1 tbsp pomegranate seeds
PROCEDURE
- boil the potatoes in the pressure cooker for 2-3 whistle
- potatoes should be firm and cooked thoroughly and it should not be mushy
- peel the skin and discard it, cut the potatoes into cubes and keep aside
- heat oil in the pan
- add chopped potatoes and fry on medium flame until golden brown on both the sides
- remove the fried potatoes from the oil and drain on paper towel to remove excess oil and keep aside
- in a mixing bowl, add chopped onions, kashmiri red chilli powder, cumin powder, chaat masala powder, salt, green chutney and tamarind chutney
- mix well
- now add fried potatoes into the bowl
- mix altogether without breaking the potatoes
- transfer the prepared potatoes into the serving plate
- garnish with plain sev, followed by curd/yogurt, chopped coriander leaves, more plain sev and finally pomegranate seeds
- aloo chaat is ready and serve immediately
- taste was absolutely delicious
- do not over cook the potatoes or else it will turn mushy
- adjust spice level according to your taste
- if you are diet conscious, grill the potatoes in the over or air fryer
- garnishing with pomegranate seeds are totally optional
- serve hot or warm
