MOONG DAL SUNDAL | NAVARATRI RECIPES | STARTUP COOKING
Moong dal Sundal or Pasi Paruppu Sundal recipe is one of the sundal varieties that's made during Navratri festival to distribute as prasadam or neivedyam. One of the easiest recipe to prepare during weekdays, simply season the cooked moong dal with freshly grated coconut. It's very delicious. This snack recipe is very healthy and rich in protein. It is an easy to make recipe which can be made in just few minutes.
For this moong dal sundal, there is no need to soak the lentils overnight or pressure cook too and it can be cook in open pot within 10 minutes. The mustard seeds, urad dal, hing, red chilli, curry leaves and grated coconut brings out the authentic flavors to this sundal recipe. It's also a perfect tea time snack.

RECIPE FOR MOONG DAL SUNDAL

INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup moong dal
- 3 cup water
- 1 tsp oil
- 2 tsp oil - to temper
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp urad dal
- 1/4 tsp hing
- 1 spring curry leaves
- 2 red chilli
- salt to taste
- 1/4 cup grated coconut
PROCEDURE
- take 1/2 cup moong dal, rinse well in running water for 2-3 times
- soak in water for 30 minutes
- boil 3 cups of water with a tsp of oil
- once water starts to boil, add the soaked moong dal
- cook in low flame for 5-10 minutes ( do not overcook or otherwise it will be mushy)
- check the dal with spoon, once its cooked soft from inside, switch off the flame
- drain the water using strainer and keep it aside
- heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and allow to crackle
- add urad dal, hing, red chili, and curry leaves
- saute for few seconds
- add the cooked moong dal, salt and grated coconut
- mix well
- cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute
- switch off the flame
- transfer to serving bowl
- Enjoy !
NOTES
- soaking the dal in water, makes it cook faster
- always cook on low flame, stir well, otherwise it will be overflowing or it will turn mushy
MOONG DAL SUNDAL WITH STEP-BY-STEP PHOTO RECIPE
take 1/2 cup moong dal
soak in water for 30 minutes
after 30 minutes
drain the water
boil 3 cups of water with a tsp of oil
bring water to rolling boil
add the soaked moong dal
cook in low flame for 5-10 minutes
check the dal with spoon, once its cooked from inside,
switch off the flame
drain the water and keep it aside
heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and urad dal
add hing, red chilli and curry leaves, sautés for few seconds
add cooked moong dal
add salt
add grated coconut
mix well and cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute, switch off the flame
transfer to serving bowl, Enjoy !
