SAMAI UPMA RECIPE WITH STEP-BY-STEP PHOTOS
take 1/2 cup samai
Samai also called as little millet in English, is one of the healthy millet variety. Millets are always special among all other grains as they are nutritious, gluten free and non-sticky. For those who are health conscious, expert suggests that millets should be a part of their regular diet.

RECIPE FOR LITTLE MILLET UPMA

INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup little millet (samai)
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp urad dal
- 1/8 tsp hing (asafoetida)
- 1 spring curry leaves
- 1 tsp ginger - chopped
- 2 green chili - slitted
- 1 onion - medium size - thinly sliced
- salt to taste
- 1.5 cup water
PROCEDURE
- wash the samai and soak it in water for 15 minutes
- heat oil in a pan
- add mustard seeds, allow to crackle
- add urad dal, saute well, allow to change the color
- add hing and curry leaves, allow the leaves to turn crisp
- add green chillies and chopped ginger, saute for few seconds
- add thinly sliced onion
- saute in medium flame till the onions turn pink
- add soaked samai
- mix well
- add 1.5 cup water
- add salt
- mix well
- cover with lid and cook on low flame, till it gets completely cooked (for me it takes 12 minutes)
- fluff it up with fork
- serve hot with sugar, pickle or any chutney of your choice

SAMAI UPMA RECIPE WITH STEP-BY-STEP PHOTOS

wash well and soak in water for 15 minutes
soaked samai
heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and allow to crackle
add urad dal and change the color, add hing
add curry leaves and allow to turn crisp
add chopped ginger and green chillies
add thinly sliced onion
saute well in medium flame till the onions turn pink
add soaked samai
mix well
add 1.5 cup water and salt
mix well
cover and cook in medium flame
stir once, cover and cook again in medium flame, till it gets completely cooked
samai upma ready
fluff up with a fork
serve hot with sugar, pickle or chutney of your choice
