Snake Gourd kootu is a delicious no onion no garlic recipe that is prepared adding moong dal and coconut mix. This kootu is so delicious, and can be enjoyed with hot rice and potato curry. This recipe can also pair with poodu Kuzhambu, rasam rice or side dish for rice. This Snake gourd is available only in Asian super market. INGREDIENTS

- 1 snake gourd
- 1/4 cup moong dal
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- salt to taste
To Grind
- 1/3 cup grated coconut
- 1 tsp cumin seed
- 1 tsp pepper corn
For Seasoning
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp urad dal
- 1/4 tsp hing /asafetida
- 1 red chilli
- 6-7 curry leaves
PROCEDURE
- take 1 snake gourd
- peel the skin and discard the seeds
- chop the snake gourd into pieces
- take 1/4 cup moong dal in a bowl, rinse well
- add enough water
- add turmeric powder and salt
- add chopped snake gourd
- mix well
- place it in the pressure cooker and pressure cook for 2-3 whistle
- in a mixer grinder, add grated coconut, pepper corn and cumin seeds
- grind to a smooth paste by adding little water and keep it aside
- heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and allow to crackle
- add urad dal and hing, saute for few seconds
- add red chili and curry leaves and saute well or till it turn crisp
- once the pressure subsides naturally, add coconut paste into cooked snake gourd and dal
- add seasoning
- mix well
- bring the mixture to 1 boil and then switch off the flame
- serve with hot rice and potato curry

PUDALANGAI KOOTU WITH STEP-BY-STEP PHOTO RECIPE
take 1 snake gourd (pudalangai)
peel the skin
discard the seeds
chop the snake gourd
take moong dal in a bowl
rinse well and add enough water
add turmeric powder
add salt
add chopped snake gourd
mix well and place in pressure cooker.
pressure cook for 2-3 whistle
cooked snake gourd and dal
in a mixer grinder, add grated coconut, cumin seed and pepper corn
grind to a smooth paste by adding little water
add into the cooked snake gourd and dal
mix well
heat oil in a pan
add mustard seeds and allow to splutter
add urad dal and hing
add red chili and curry leaves
allow the ingredients to turn little brown
add into cooked dal and bring mix to one boil
serve with steamed rice and potato curry, taste delicious
