A quick and easy South Indian side dish recipe made using lentils. This is a simple and healthy recipe that can be made in 5 minutes and is served as an accompaniment to rice. Paruppu Thogayal is made with toor dal, bengal gram dal, pepper corn and grated coconut. This recipe goes well with steamed rice, rasam rice and Kootu recipes. There are lots of thogayal recipes and this is one among them. Paruppu thogayal is an excellent combo with steamed rice with ghee or sesame oil. RECIPE FOR PARUPPU THOGAYAL

INGREDIENTS
- 1/4 cup toor dal
- 1/4 cup bengal gram dal
- 1/2 tsp pepper corn
- 4 red chillies
- 2 tbsp grated coconut
- salt to taste
- 1/8 tsp hing/asafoetida
- 1 tsp oil
- water to grind
PROCEDURE
- heat a tsp of oil, add toor dal, bengal gram dal and pepper corn
- saute in medium flame or until the dal turns slight golden brown
- once dal turns color, remove from the pan and keep it aside
- in the same pan, fry red chilies and keep it aside
- add grated coconut, saute for few seconds and switch off the flame
- allow all the ingredients to cool
- add into mixer grinder
- add salt and hing
- grind to a slight coarse paste by adding little water
- serve it with hot steamed rice with a tsp of ghee or sesame oil
- or serve as a side dish for rasam rice

PARUPPU THOGAYAL WITH STEP-BY-STEP PHOTO RECIPE
heat a tsp of oil in a pan, add toor dal
add bengal gram dal
saute in medium flame
add pepper corn
saute in medium flame, until the dal turns golden brown color, remove from the pan and keep it aside
in the same pan, fry red chillies and keep it aside
add grated coconut, saute for few seconds and switch off the flame
allow all the ingredients to cool
add into mixer grinder
add grated coconut
add hing
add salt
grind to a slight coarse paste by adding little water
Paruppu Thogayal Ready
serve it with hot steamed rice with papad. Taste Delicious 😋
