KADALA CURRY VIDEO RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup brown chick peas | kala channa | brown kondaikadalai
- 1 cup grated coconut
- 1 large tomato
- 3 tbsp oil - divided
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 2 red chillies
- 1 spring curry leaves
- 1/2 tsp hing | asafoetida
- 1 onion - finely chopped
- 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
- 2 green chillies
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1.5 tsp sambar powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
- salt as needed
- 3.5 cup water
- coriander leaves for garnish
PROCEDURE
- soak brown chick pea | kala channa in water for overnight
- heat a tsp of oil in a frying pan
- add grated coconut
- saute coconut in medium flame until it turns light golden brown
- add roughly chopped tomatoes
- saute till it turns mushy
- allowed to cool completely
- transfer into mixer grinder
- grind to a smooth paste and keep it aside
- heat oil in a pressure cooker
- add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, red chillies and hing
- saute well
- add finely chopped onion and splitted green chillies
- saute well until onion turns golden brown
- add ginger garlic paste, saute till the raw smell goes
- add turmeric powder, sambar powder, garam masala powder and salt
- mix well
- add soaked kala channa
- combine well and cook in medium flame for 3-4 minutes
- add grounded coconut paste
- mix well
- add required amount of water and mix well
- pressure cook for 6-7 whistles or till the kala channa turns soft
- garnish with coriander leaves
Kerala Kadala Curry With Step-by-Step Photo Recipe
soak 1 cup brown chickpea | kala chana in water for overnight
soaked kala channa | brown chickpea
heat a tsp of oil in a frying pan
add grated coconut
saute until light golden brown
add chopped tomatoes in grated coconut
saute till tomatoes turns mushy and cool down completely
transfer into mixer grinder
add little water and grind to a smooth paste and keep it aside
add 2 tbsp oil in a pressure cooker pan
add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and allow to crackle
add red chillies, curry leaves and hing
saute well
add finely chopped onion and slitted green chilli
saute well until onion turns light golden brown
add ginger garlic paste
saute till the raw smell goes completely
add turmeric powder, sambar powder, garam masala powder and salt
mix well
add soaked kala channa | brown chick pea
combine well with all the spice powders
add grounded coconut paste
mix well
add enough water
pressure cook for 6-7 whistles or until brown chickpeas turn soft
kadala curry ready | brown chickpea gravy ready
garnish with coriander leaves
serve hot with appam, puttu, chapathi or dosa
