Learn how to prepare Semiya Kichadi
Semiya kichadi or vegetable semiya or vermicelli upma is a very easy and healthy south Indian breakfast. It is a one pot meal. Semiya kichadi is a perfect lunch box recipe also. The main difference between upma and kichadi is that upma is bit dry and kichadi is soft and cook with vegetables and a masala flavour. This recipe goes well with coconut chutney.

INGREDIENTS
PROCEDURE
- In a sauce pan, add 2 cups of water
- allow to boil
- add vermicelli
- add 2 tsp of oil
- bring water to boil and cook for 3-4 minutes
- once 3/4th cooked, filter through a strainer and allowed to rest for 5 minutes
- in a frying pan, add cloves, cinnamon, garlic, curry leaves, green chilli, finely chopped ginger, and cashew nuts.
- saute for few minutes
- add thinly sliced onions
- saute onion until become translucent
- add chopped tomato
- saute until it become mushy
- add chopped carrot, beans and peas
- add salt and 1/2 cup water
- cover and cook for 5 - 8 minutes or until vegetables half cooked
- now add cooked vermicelli or semiya
- mix well
- cover and cook for 5 minutes in low flame
- garnish with coriander leaves
- Enjoy with coconut chutney or coriander chutney.
