Idly Podi Recipe - a flavorful spice powder made of lentils and red chillies. This is one of the comfort side dish recipe for morning breakfast in Tamil Nadu. During school days, 50% of all the school lunch boxes were packed with sesame oil coated podi Idly. In our house, we all need Idly podi even if there is chutney for Idly. This recipe is very easy and simple method. Today we will learn how to make idly dosa podi.
This recipe is easy to prepare and goes very well with Idli, dosa and uthappam. Idli podi tastes little spicy and slightly crunchy to the mouth. For making podi idli, mix the idli podi with sesame oil and apply all over the idli and sprinkle the idli podi on top of the uthappam or dosa to make the recipe more delicious. RECIPE FOR IDLI PODI

INGREDIENTS

- 1 cup Urad dal
- 1 cup Bengal gram dal
- 18 Red chilli
- 1 tsp Hing
- Salt as needed

PROCEDURE
- dry roast bengal gram dal in low medium flame until it changes the color and then set aside to cool
- in the same pan, dry roast the urad dal in low flame until it turns light brown color and then set aside to cool
- dry roast red chillies on the same pan until you can smell them. Remove the chillies from the pan and set aside on a plate to cool
- cool down the ingredients completely and then add into the mixer grinder
- add Hing (asafoetida) and salt
- grind to a slight coarse powder
- simple and basic idli podi is ready
- store in an air tight container
- enjoy with Idly and Dosa 😋
NOTES
- adjust red chillies as per your taste
- Mix the Idly podi either with sesame oil or ghee
- Serve with Idly or Dosa

until it turns color, set aside
dry roast red chillies for few seconds
cool down the roasted ingredients
add into the mixer grinder along with salt and hing
grind to a slight coarse powder
idli podi is ready, serve with a tsp of sesame oil or ghee
